One of the greatest feelings in your life is when something fantastic happens to you. You get a huge refund from Uncle Sam that was totally unexpected. At work, you receive an increase in pay. Not only is it unexpected, but it will make all the difference in the world in your standard of living. Then, turning to your spiritual life, you are faithful in your service to Christ, and Christ causes you to be used more fully, than you ever imagined.
That is all well and good. As Jesus blesses you, you are grateful for those blessings. But be careful! It is easy to let all those blessings from Him go to your head. It can be difficult to keep your relationship with Jesus in the proper perspective. Bernard of Clairvaux stated some wise counsel to you and to me, when he stated: “It is no great thing to be humble, when you are brought lo; but to humble when you are praised is a great and rare achievement.” More true words have never been spoken. Rare, indeed, is the man or woman who that can remain humble in the midst of being exalted.
Christ only describes Himself once in all of the Holy Bible. So, you are wise to pay attention to what he says. Quoting from Scripture, Jesus talks about Himself, as He states, “Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls” (Matthew 11:29). Jesus gives you an invitation to live for Him. In living for Jesus, He is our example. And to be like Jesus, you are to be “humble.” The result of you being “humble,” is that you find rest for our souls.
Rejoice when Jesus blesses you and pours His blessing upon you. It is. At these times, when you are lifted up that you humbly go down. Accept Jesus today!
