Life has its way of throwing you a few punches. Those punches, sometimes, come one right after another. The result is that you feel defeated. If not remedied, it can affect your emotional and spiritual life. When feeling defeated, you have no desire to accomplish anything in your life. You just want to be left alone.
You may feel defeated after a long spiritual or emotional battle. Or, you may be the type that at the smallest occurrence, your life is turned upside down. In talking about what it takes for you to be discouraged, one unknown author puts it this way: “you can tell how big a worker is by observing how much it takes to discourage him.” The fact remains, though, that regardless of how big or small a worker you may be, discouragement can take its toll on your life.
The Word of God speaks volumes about your encouragement in daily living. One such verse says, “Now may the God who gives perseverance and encouragement grant you to be of the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus” (Romans 15:5; NASV). Notice, that God is the one that gives you your encouragement. It is there only for your asking. And that encouragement is not given to you only once in a while. That encouragement is given so that you can walk with Christ day-in and day-out – “God who gives perseverance.” Christ gives you His encouragement to enjoy throughout your pilgrimage on earth.
You may be down in your Christian life right now. If not, just know that it may happen sooner than you think. The good news is that your downtrodden attitude does not have to last forever. Christ is there to give you the encouragement you need. He brings you up when down!
