Today there is a total eclipse of the sun in various parts of the United States. It has caused such a stir in many parts of America. Something like this grabs our attention. It is just one of the many wonders of the world, in regards to the Lord and His creation.
A scientist once suggested an interesting analogy. Imagine, he said, a perfectly smooth glass pavement on which the finest speck can be seen. Then shrink our sun from 865,000 miles in creation to only 2 feet, and place this ball on the pavement to represent the sun. Step off 82 paces, of about 2 feet each, to proportionately represent the first planet, Mercury and put a mustard seed to represent it. Take 60 more steps, each about 2 feet, and for Venus put a BB shot. Mark 78 more, and for our Earth, put down a pea. Do this for all the remaining planets in our solar system. Not including Pluto, this will take 2 ½ miles. If we turn this sheet around, it will take up 5 miles in diameter representing our solar system, just a fraction of the heavens. And we would have to go 6,720 miles, not feet, on this scale to get to the nearest star. The heavens are wonderfully made.
The universe, in which we live, is made by an omnipotent, all-powerful God. “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary, His understanding is unsearchable” (Isaiah 40:28; NKJV). You cannot fully understand the things of God, because He, alone, does what pleases Him.
The same God who created the heavens and the earth, is the same God who created a plan in which sinful man could forever live in harmony with Him, who is holy. It is to accept Christ as your Lord and Savior. Do so today!
