You say you want to do the right thing, but often do not carry that out in daily living. Sometimes, that means that you do not know what is right. Your desire is to do the right thing, but in all honesty, there are too many options to be able to decipher which is the correct one.
Being honest, though, the majority of times you know what to do but fail to carry this out. Peer pressure plays a big part of keeping you from doing what is right. You want to fit in with the crowd, so doing what is right is not your choice. This can even happen in your Christian walk. Christians may want to do something that you feel uncomfortable with, so you just go along with the crowd. Mark Twain had a way of getting to the core of a problem, and in regards to doing what is right, he said: “Do the right thing. It will please some people and astonish others.” In short, always do the right thing.
The Scriptures talk a lot about doing the right thing. It says that your obedience to the Word of God will always lead you to do what is right. In the Wisdom Literature, it states: “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death” (Proverbs 14:12, NKJV). This verse contrasts human wisdom with heavenly wisdom. As you contemplate what to do, are you looking at it through what your culture says you should do? The world around you, and unbelievers, will influence you to make right decisions according to ungodly wisdom. Handling a situation in a Godly manner, requires seeking Godly wisdom.
Seeking Christ’s wisdom is done by doing two things. First, get direction for doing the right thing from what the Scriptures tell you to do. Next, pray about it. Make both a sincere effort. Then go do what is right!
