You want to live a happy life. That is the American dream. Every person in the USA wants to live a life of ease and comfort. You want to enjoy the better things that this life has to offer.
There is nothing wrong with that mind-set, so long as you have the right biblical perspective. The Bible does not condemn riches or the pursuit of riches. What it condemns is the pursuit of riches as the ultimate goal. You are not to pursue riches at all costs.
The Scriptures prescribe a life dedicated to being a student of the word of God. As you lose your life in the pursuit of biblical living, is when you actually find your life. Many Christians speak of the great need of Bible study in their life. G. Campbell Morgan’s son testifies that his father rose early each working day and spent several hours with his Bible, having only a light breakfast of tea and toast. After fifty-five years of intensive Bible study Morgan said, “I have only touched the fringes of the Bible.” That answer came from one who spend countless hundreds of hours studying the Scriptures.
As you study the Scriptures, you find that they are the sole source of the joyful Christian life. The more you study them, the more happiness you find. This is true of every believer who is a diligent student of the Word of God. All you have to do is to ask them.
The very first Psalm talks about the “blessed” person, or as some translations say, “the happy” person. That person is described in verse 2, “But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night” (NKJV).
The happy life is found by meditating on Scripture!
