Life may have given you a few curves. The bottom may just have fallen out from underneath you. Those dreams that have guided you for so many years have just gone up in smoke. That relationship seemed to be bullet-proof, but is now just a memory. In all this, you wonder what is the meaning of life?
Human life was never intended to be obtained here on earth. You must realize that the meaning to life comes from an intimate relationship with Christ. John Bacon, eminent eighteenth-century English sculptor, said on his death bed, “What I was as an artist seemed seemed of little importance while I lived, but what I really am as a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, is the only thing of importance to me now.” At the end of your life, all that really matters is if you are a child of Christ, or not.
I know you are thinking that all I have said is well and done for the end of a person’s life, but what should I do until then? Paul wrote some letters to his friend and co-worker, Timothy. In the closing of one of those letters, he wrote some good guidance, “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold of eternal life . . .” (1 Timothy 6:12). He commands us to keep in view our purpose of life on earth – to be heavenly minded. He even goes a step further and tells you how to do this. He says to “fight the good fight.” Make each day count for Christ.
You will never find meaning to life through earthly goods or relationships. Life only makes sense as seen through eyes looking at eternal life. To make that happen in your life, live for Christ. That is what the verse above means by “fight the good fight.” Seek Christ fully, today!
