You make many decisions on a daily basis. Some decisions are made while you are on your job. These impact yourself and the other employees where you work. Other decisions are made at home in relation to your family setting. And if not to your family, to you, yourself. Decisions, decisions, decisions are all around you. They are inescapable.
In discussing decisions, you are wise to make one regarding your spiritual welfare. After all, where you spend eternity and what will happen to you there is the ultimate decision you can make. When Franz Delitzsch, a German exegete, was teaching at Leipzig, on one occasion he said to his students, “Young gentlemen, the battle is now raging around the Old Testament. Soon it will pass into the New Testament field – it is already beginning. Finally, it will press forward to the citadel of your faith – the Person of Jesus Christ. There the last struggle will occur. I shall not be here then, but some of you will be. Be true to Christ. Stand up for Him. Preach Christ and Him crucified.”
The New Testament carries this same theme: “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me … “ (Galatians 2:20). Christ is crucified. He died on a cross for your sins. To go to heaven, you must accept Jesus’ payment on that cross for your sins.
Many, many decisions you will make in your lifetime. The ultimate decision is to accept Jesus’ payment on the cross for your sins. Then start obeying the Bible. That is what the Bible means when it says to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior. After all, where you spend eternity is the most absolute decision you will ever make. Do so today! Do so right now!
I’m often awed by the thousands, indeed millions, of decisions we make in our lives, any one of them could permanently alter the path we tread. I thank God for being my navigator.
I’m reminded of a sermon many years ago at the funeral of a young black man who had taken his own life. “We all have eternal life. We just need to decide where we want to spend it.”
Hello Ray – yes, that is so true that we all choose our own destiny. God created a world full of wonder to show us that He is God and also a heavenly sky full of splendor to point us to the King of kings. God chooses us to become His children. Our heavenly reward in no way is part of our own doing, but is because of God’s grace granted to us. Thanks for taking time to respond to this blog! Have a great week!
