How To Gain Wisdom

The book of Proverbs says much about being a fool.  A fool does not acknowledge God as God.  The foolish person actually says that God does not exist.  Proverbs goes on to warn Christians not to ever argue with a fool.

You may say, that is all well of someone else, but it does not apply to you.  The problem with most fools is that they do not see themselves as fools.  No amount of arguing with them will change their minds.

You may not be a fool; that is good.  There is another character trait that floats about Christian circles.  That trait is that you do not know something and, thus, you cannot correct the problem.  A. A. Alcott, states it this way, “To be ignorant of one’s ignorance, is the malady of ignorance.”  So many people are ignorant and do not realize they are ignorant.

How can you cure yourself of your ignorance, if you are ignorant?  How can you keep from being ignorant, if you are not ignorant?  The Holy Bible answers that question.  In the longest book of the Bible, near its end, you find written: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.”  The first thing you must do to become wise is to fear the Lord God.  This is not a fear where God is sitting over you waiting for you to err, so He can hit you over the head with a big stick.  No, this fear is a total respect for God, as recorded for you in the Scriptures.

It helps if you realize you do not have wisdom.  Or, if you have a hunger for biblical knowledge.  Both of these yield a good starting point in gaining biblical wisdom.  Pray to the Lord and ask that He give you spiritual wisdom in how to handle life situations.  To gain wisdom, starts with that reverential fear of the Lord God!
