You probably accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and soon afterwards doubted your salvation. More than likely, this continued over the course of some time. You went through life doubting that you were actually saved. Even today, that feeling may be stealing the joy that the Holy Spirit promises to you.
Curtis Hudson shares a glimpse of history that may just help: “During the first part of the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, no safety devices were used and twenty-three men fell to their deaths. For the last part of the project, however, a large net that costs $100,000 was employed. At least ten man fell into it and were saved. But an interesting sidelight is the fact that 25 percent more work was accomplished when the men were assured of their safety.” That principle applies to the Christian life, as well. When a believer is afraid that he/she is not saved, they live ineffectively for the Lord. The use of their spiritual gifts is greatly minimized.
The Lord Jesus knows, that without assurance of salvation, a Christian cannot be used by Him to do His work. Thus, the person cannot function properly for himself/herself and, also the body of Christ suffers because a part of the body suffers. To assure Christians of their salvation, the Lord included 1 John 5:13, “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.” These things I have written” are the Scriptures. Yes, the Word of God is written so that you “may know that you have eternal life.” Since you “know” you are saved, you can have assurance of your salvation.
Memorize 1 John 5:13 and pray it to yourself to be assured of your salvation. You are completely saved!
