Living The Good Life

You want your life to count.  You desire that your days on earth be filled with goodness and blessings.  If you listen to the world around you, it will tell you to seek enjoyment in any way that brings you instant satisfaction.  Worldly seekers look for the best in this life by drugs, sex, alcohol, having a highly paid job, just to name a few.

You know from your walk with the Lord Jesus, that His method of happiness on earth and pathway to heaven is quite different.  In fact, all the worldly fulfillments are directly opposite to Christ’s commands.  One of the main things that motivates you to obey Christ’s teachings is the fact that the Lord may come back at any moment.  Martin Luther had a good grasp on the way you should live in light of Christ’s eminent return.  He said it this way: “Live as though Christ died yesterday, rose this morning, and is coming back tomorrow.”  Now, that is a way to live!

Jesus was followed by a group of Israelites who were fed when He fed the five thousand people.  “Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life, he who comes to Me will not hunger, and He who believes in Me will never thirst” (John 6:35).  Jesus tells them in no uncertain terms that their mere existence is totally based on their relationship to Him.  That message is true of you as well.

You wish to have the good life on earth.  Martin Luther had some sound advice for you.  Yes, you are to live knowing that Jesus can return at any hour.  That motivation is grounded in the fact of what Jesus spoke about.  He tells you that your total existence is to be found in Him and in Him alone.  So, that good life you seek is found in your relationship with Jesus.  The better that relationship, the better your good life will be.  Seek Jesus fully today!
