You like to think that you are wise and make wise decisions. You put forth your best thinking before making a decision. You do this to make sure you do the best that you can do. Since you view yourself as a wise person, you do not feel like you make foolish decisions very often.
By now your head may be swelling, as you are thinking what a wise person you are. Before letting your head swell any bigger, let’s look at ways to keep your foolishness to a minimum. “The wise man has his follies no less than the fool, but herein lies the difference – the follies of the fool are known to the world, but are hidden from himself; the follies of the wise man are known to himself, but hidden from the world” (C. C. Colton). The difference between the fool and the wise man lies in whom the follies of the person is known. Are they known only to himself/herself or to the world?
Scripture warns Christians to not be foolish in their daily walk with Jesus. “So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is” (Ephesians 5:17). You see the verse tells you to not be foolish. You do this by understanding what “the will of the Lord is.” Reading the verses just previous to this, they explain exactly how you can know “the will of God” – “Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil” (Ephesians 5:15-16). You are to be wise in living each moment of each day for the glory of God. You do not have all the time in the world to accomplish God’s will for your life.
To avoid foolishness boils down to paying attention to the daily activities that you do. In each of these activities you should be “making the most of your time.” Time is valuable. Make each minute count for the glory of God!
