Following The Teacher

Chances are that you were influenced, among those years you spent in school, by a teacher that greatly influenced you.  As you look back in time, you see the course of your life changed, either for the good or the bad, as a result of that teacher.  That teacher left a mark on you, that you find hard to forget.

F. B. Meyer was a pastor of intellectual ability many years ago. His sermons are still studied by pastors today.  He also wrote some commentaries that yield great insight into the meaning and application of the Bible to daily living. Meyer signed many of his letters, “Yours to count on.”  He was a pastor yes, but he, also, was a Christian leader whom he wanted others to be able to count on him to do what is right.

To do the right thing, means that you must do the right thing day-in-and-day-out.  It is not something you can commit to one day, then leave undone for a while.  Then after some time, do what is right again for a day or two.  Jesus knew too well the cost of being a disciple of His.  In no uncertain terms, Jesus spells out exactly what it takes to be one of His followers in Matthew 16:24, “Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.’”  Jesus tells believers that the pilgrimage with Christ on earth is one that has obstacles.  Each Christian has “his cross” that he must bear.

As you follow your teacher, Jesus, just know He made a significant impact on your life forever.  As such, obey Christ when He said “follow Me.”  As you follow the Lord daily, you will be able to say, along with F. B. Meyer, “Yours to count on.”  You will be a follower who will make an impact in this world for Christ.  And that is what following the Teacher is all about!
