I am the guy who says you should rejoice and be joyful. This philosophy of life is based on Scripture. No one likes being around someone who looks like they spent the whole day sucking on lemons. Life is too short, so it should be thoroughly enjoyed.
That is all perfectly true, but life cannot and should not be one roller coaster ride after another. There are times when being serious is needed. As you think about that area of your life that needs change, it is one such time. Sin has a way of holding you back from being who you are meant to be in Christ.
Someone asked Charles Darwin, “Is there any way in which man differs from animals?” He thought and said, “Man is the only creature that blushes.” When Mark Twain heard that, he said, “Yes, and man is the only creature with reason to blush.” Yes, Mark Twain is absolutely right. It is those blushful moments of your life that separate you from fellowship with God.
You may be thinking that the sin you participate in is private. No one knows about it but you. It is a secret that no one will ever know about. Let me remind you that there is Someone who know about your sin, besides yourself; it is the Lord God. Scripture, also, says that if you continue in that secret sin long enough, it will become public. That fact is stated in Numbers 32:23: “be sure your sin will find you out.” Participate in your secret sin long enough, and it will finally catch up with you.
It is time to get serious about that secret sin in your life. First, acknowledge that the sin is in your life. Then confess it to the Lord Jesus. Finally, forsake that sin forever in your daily living. Yes, this is the time to get serious. A better life is ahead!
