Overcoming Fear

You may, at this time, be faced with something where you have to overcome tremendous odds stacked against you.  Or, the future seems so unsure.  No matter what your struggle, you are faced with undaunting fear.

Facing fear is one thing, but to overcome it seems impossible to you.  You are doing all you can, just to look fear in the face and not give up hope.  It does not matter if the fear you face is caused by your job, health, family matters, school, or personal reasons, you are faced with fear.

One unknown author wrote, “Courage is not the absence of fear but the willingness to push on in the face of it.”  That gives you some hope.  Yes, you have fear, but at the same time, courage can be applied.  Fear and courage are not complete opposites, where to have one there is the absence of the other.  You can have courage in the midst of your fear.

The Scriptures command you to face life with an attitude of courage amidst difficult times.  “Wait for the Lord: be strong and let your heart take courage; yes, wait for the Lord” (Ps. 27:14).  God knows you will face trying times.  Maybe, these times seem impossible.  His remedy to you is to “let your heart take courage.”  You take courage that God is in the midst of the situation, and He will handle it.  As you “take courage,” God tells you what you are to be doing.  He says, “be strong.”  You are to “be strong” not in your own strength and abilities, but in the Lord’s.  He even goes a step further, and lays out His game plan for you to follow – “Wait for the Lord!”  This waiting on God to work is so very, very important, that He mentions it twice.  God says, “Wait for the Lord” at the beginning and the end of the verse.  It is what you do at the beginning, through the process, and then, again, at the end.

So, how do you overcome fear?  By being courageous in God’s strength as you wait for the Lord to remedy your situation.  This causes fear to leave as a vapor dissipates!
