When you were a child, you wanted to have lots of friends. You would envy that child, that you knew, who had a ton of friends. It seemed they would laugh, play, and just have the grandest time when they were all together. That person seemed to have the world by the tail.
As you grew older, you realized that having a lot of friends wasn’t as important as you thought as a child. You learned that having a few really good friends was much better than having lots of friends. With a few friends that shared several interests with you, life seemed much more enjoyable.
As time passed, you came to the realization that if you only had one or two really close friends in your entire life you were truly blessed. Mark Twain was a great writer of novels; he also was known for his short sayings relevant to life’s events. He said, as talking about friends, “To get the full value of joy, you must have someone to divide it with.” Now, that is some sound advice. To go along with this, is the little saying, “A sorrow shared is half a sorrow, and a joy shared is twice a joy.” Having people around you, that really know you, can make all the difference in the world.
The wisest man that ever lived, King Solomon, knew all too well the importance of a good friend in life; he said, “A friend loves at all time…” (Proverbs 17:17). That best friend, that is leap years better than other friends, is the one who will help you in any situation life may bring. Also, that friend will not judge you, or leave your side, no matter what.
Your best friend in always there in your corner to cheer you on for better or for worse. Your friend’s encouragement means so much to you, but of far greater worth is a faithful, best friend in the Lord. That Christian best friend is a friend indeed!
