No sooner do you start working at your profession, than you begin to ask questions and seek how you can make more money than you presently make. You do this, not only when you start the job, but most days thereafter. You have a quest to make more money. No matter how much you make, your desire is to make more money.
You justify your need for more money, by stating that everywhere you turn, everything seems to cost more. There just does not seem to be enough cash flow at the end of the month to pay all the bills. Richard Simmons states this principle well when he said, “That money speaks I’ll not deny, I heard it once, it said, ‘Good-bye.’” Ha! Ha! We chuckle but deep down inside you think that is exactly how you feel. You have the feeling that you can hold on to money just about as well as you can hold water in open hands with fingers spread apart.
There is nothing wrong with wanting enough money to pay monthly bills and have a savings. King Solomon was the wisest man to ever live on earth. No one has been as wise as he was, before he was born, during his life, or anytime afterwards. In discussing money, he gives some wise advice when he said, “He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves abundance with its income. This too is vanity” (Eccl. 5:10). The problem is not in the fact of having money, or even a lot of money. The problem is when the desire to obtain money consumes you. No matter how much you have today, you want more. The more you have, the more you want.
Substitute that desire of yours in stating that you want a little more with doing a great job at work, praying to the Lord about your money needs, and leaving the results with Him. God will give you contentment in your finances and add to your income in His time!
