A New You For A New Year

As you begin a new year, now is the time to take a close look at yourself.  It is time to get serious about making some changes in your life.  You may need to get serious about losing some weight that has gradually piled on your body.  Or maybe now is the time to mend some relationships or make the relationships that you have more meaningful.  Or maybe it is time to get serious with your relationship with Jesus by having a consistent time daily in Bible reading and prayer.  No matter what changes need to occur, now is the time to grab the needed change you want by the horns and make it happen.

In discussing New Year’s resolutions, an unknown author has this to say: “Dear Master for this coming year just one request I bring: I do not pray for happiness, or any earthly thing—I do not need to understand the way Thou leadest me, but this I ask: teach me to do the thing that pleasest Thee.  I want to know Thy guiding voice, to walk with Thee each day.  Dear Master, make me swift to hear and ready to obey.  And thus, the year I now begin, a happy year will be—if I am seeking just to do the thing that pleaseth Thee.”  Now, that is a goal every Christian should make.

Going along this same train of thought, the Holy Bible in 1 Thessalonians 2:5 has this to say, “but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who examines our hearts.”  Notice the progression: “we have been approved by God,” “”we speak,” “not as pleasing men,” “but God,” “who examines our hearts.”  In summary, do not please other people but please the Lord God, as He looks deep inside you as to your motives in your actions.

Yes, let 2021 be the new year that you become a new you.  No matter what goal(s) you make, be sure your number one goal is to please God more this year than in years past.  It really is time you make some renovations!
