Laser Focused Living

Life is full of so many tasks that require your attention.  You no sooner finish one thing, then another one or two needs your attention.  Your day is filled with completing one thing after another.  At the end of the day, you look at the tasks you accomplished, and cannot think of much that was done.  You were busy, but actually did not do much.

To complete the important tasks, during your day, you have to think about what is really important.  That way if you complete the important tasks, if nothing else gets done, the important matters are completed.  A German proverb sheds some light on this: “The main thing is that the main thing always remains the main thing.”  Your goal must be clear.  You must know your goal and work toward fulfilling that goal throughout your day.

The Pharisees asked Jesus an important question.  They, of course, asked the question to trick Jesus.  They asked Him what was the greatest commandment.  Think about that for a minute.  If you know what is the “all- important” commandment to follow, then you can make that your goal every moment of every day.  Knowing the greatest commandment allows you to do the daily activities that accomplish that goal.  Jesus answered them, “And He said to them, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.  This is the great and foremost commandment’” (Matt. 22:37-38).  Yes, I know that you are so familiar with this verse, that you yawn at its reading.  Do not let the familiarity cloud your thinking of its profound importance.

The way to keep on track with being obedient to the Lord, is to have a laser focus on keeping the greatest commandment.  It is time to start living what you know!
