Take a good close look at your life. How do you like what you see? No doubt you have a lot of good qualities that immediately show up. There are, also, some areas of your life that you would like to improve. How exactly do you change those areas of your life? What can you do to be a better person in the future than you are today?
No doubt, to improve yourself will take some time. Charlie “Tremendous” Jones was a motivational speaker who had keen insight into this matter. His remedy for becoming a better person is stated in his own words: “You will be the same person five years from now that you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read.” Yes, to change requires some work. Making friends with successful people will help you be more successful. The people you hang around with will influence you, either good or bad. Also, the books you read will guide you into either becoming a better person or cause you to backslide.
The Bible’s infinite wisdom confirms that very philosophy which was stated about two thousand years ago. Paul knew the necessity for believers to have an example for them to follow. He exhorts Christians in 1 Corinthians, “Therefore I exhort you, be imitators of me” (4:16). This confirms an old Southern slang which says, “Birds of a feather flock together.” We become like the people with which we spend a lot of time.
So, to transform your life, some adjustments need to made in your life. First, choose the people that you spend a lot of time with carefully. Their habits, either good or bad, will rub off on you. Secondly, make sure the books you are reading are positive. In relation to the books that you read, you need to make sure that adequate time is spent in the Book of books; this book will literally change your life!
