Your Eternal Home

The fact that earth is not the best your life has to offer gives you great hope.  Earth has so much distress, evil, and disappointment.  No matter where you go on earth, it is full of heartache.  Just about the time that life is going your way and there is joy unspeakable, tragedy comes your way.

The biblical fact that heaven is for believers motivates you to eagerly wait for the day you will spend eternity there.  The fact that eternal bliss awaits you, causes you to eagerly await its arrival.  At dusk, a little girl entered a cemetery.  An old man who sat at the gate said to her, “Aren’t you afraid to go through the cemetery at dark?”  “Oh no,” she replied, “my home is just on the other side.”  Beyond the grave is where the life in heaven begins for Christians.

God did not create you to live eternally on this sinful earth.  He created you to spend eternity in heaven.  In fact, as a Christian, your home is not here on earth.  Your home is already in heaven; you just haven’t arrived there yet.  The Scriptures make that clear: “For our citizenship is in heaven, for which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ” (Phil. 3:20).  Notice, your home is in heaven right now.  Look at life on earth as a long journey away from home.  The journey takes you through ups and downs as you go forward to your home—heaven.  This verse also tells you the One who will usher you into heaven; it will be your Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Make preparations for your entrance into your eternal home in heaven.  The Lord Jesus Christ is there awaiting your arrival.  You could be called home in heaven at any moment.  The time may just be nearer than you think.  You should be prepared, for your entrance may happen in just the twinkling of an eye.
