Every once in a while, it is good to stop in your tracks and take a good look at yourself. Introspection into where you are in your relationship with Christ and what your spiritual life looks like often needs evaluating. This helps to determine what you should do in the future. This inspection will show you the direction your spiritual life should follow. You may find some areas need attention, or you may just need to keep doing the things you are presently doing.
John Hubbard said some insightful things, when talking about your character: “Circumstances do not make a man; they reveal a man.” The way you handle the good times and the bad times in your life says a lot about the person that you are. Someone once stated that for every 100 people who respond correctly to adversity, there is only 1 that responds well with affluence. Either will reveal the real you.
When blessings or trials come into your life, you should dig your heals into keeping your relationship with Jesus strong. The Scriptures command you to do this in 1 Corinthians 16:13, “Be on the alert, stand firm in the truth, act like men, be strong.” The words “be on the alert” mean that you are not to let your guard down in living your Christian life. As you live for Christ, you are ever aware that Satan is at your door just looking and waiting for an opportunity to make you sin. As you do this, the Word is saying to you “stand firm in the faith.” Do not be passive. Actively and consciously live by the Scriptures. Look at the end of the verse; it says “be strong.”
Your shadow reveals what you really are. As the light shines upon your life, the exact person you are is shown by your shadow. Just maybe you need to trim a few branches to improve your shadow. Do so right now!
