Being in Good Company

To be in good company means that you associate yourself with the right kind of people.  The people you associate with are a reflection of who really are.   You decide the kind of people that will be in your inner circle.

Dwight Morrow once wrote to his son, “The world is divided into people who do things and people who get the credit.  Try if you can to belong to the first class.  There’s far less competition.”  Yes, the number of people who are known for doing things is much less than those who just want to get the credit for doing something.  Follow Morrow’s advice and have a reputation for the person who gets things done.

In the Christian life, to be a person who gets things done means giving the Lord God first place in your life.  As you worship God first, the spiritual things that you do will bring eternal rewards.  Scripture says, “to love the Lord your God and to walk in all His ways and keep His commandments and to hold fast to Him and serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul” (Joshua 22:5).  Notice, this verse gives you certain commands that you are to do: “love the Lord,” “walk in all His ways,” “keep His commandments,” “hold fast to Him,” and “serve Him.”  As you obey these commands, you will be a “doer” in the kingdom of God.

To be in good company, be known as the person that is a doer and not someone who just claims bragging rights.  The above verse specifies many ways that you can be a doer in the Christian life.  Notice, these commands given are not to be done half-heartedly.  Look at the end of the verse.  You are to accomplish the verse’s mandates “with all your heart and with all you soul.”  Go ahead and attack life by being a doer.  You will be in a much smaller company than the braggers, but in so much better company.
