When you become a Christian, your life takes on a totally different perspective. You become more aware of sin in your life. You experience the need to confess sin to the Lord Jesus. At that same time, an awareness becomes evident in you that God is molding you to become more and more like Jesus Christ; you want to become sinless or holy.
Holiness is hard to describe and even harder to understand. An unknown author hit the nail on the head in describing holiness: “Holiness vanishes when you talk about it but becomes gloriously conspicuous when you live it.” Holiness does not need to be discussed; it needs to be lived in your daily life.
I know what you may be thinking, “If you cannot discuss it, then how will I know how to live it?” The people who lived holy lives in the Word of God, never told others to look at their holiness or even told them to follow steps one, two, three to be holy. They simply lived holy lives. The Scriptures do, however, shed some light on what you need to do to live a holy life: “For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but He disciples us for our good, so that we may share His holiness” (Hebrews 12:10). Thus, to become holy, God uses discipline in your life to bring it about. Holiness is a life well lived, not a discussion on the topic.
Holiness is that elusive Christian trait that is better seen and not heard. Go into your world and allow God to discipline you, so that He can mold you into the image of His Son. After all, Jesus is your example. When God disciplines you, respond to that discipline by reacting the exact same way Jesus would respond in that same situation. That makes holiness not quite so elusive.
