In many areas of your life you can learn just enough to get by. Obeying the laws of the land is one example. You do not need to know all the legalities of the law. What you need to know is what the law actually is and to obey it. When you go see a physician, you do not need to know everything he/she knows. You do need to know and follow his instructions. There are many, many areas of life in which this is true.
When it comes to studying the Bible, you can know just enough to get into heaven, but the Word of God commands you to become a mature Christian. This involves you studying the Scriptures consistently. G. Campbell Morgan was a scholar and pastor of yesteryear. His son testifies that his father arose early each day and spent several hours with his Bible, having only a light breakfast of tea and toast. After fifty-five years of intensive Bible study Morgan said, “I have only touched the fringes of the Bible.” Wow! My mentor once said, “The value of education is moving you from where you know something to a place of realizing just how much you do not know.” That is very true. If you think you know something, chances are you know very little.
The Holy Bible describes God in such a way that your understanding Him will take an eternity, “Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable are His ways!” (Romans 11:33). Yes, that is exactly why heaven will not be boring. You will reside in heaven one day, but although time never ends in eternity, you will never fully comprehend God.
Do not be content with being a baby Christian desiring only the milk of the Word of God. Do more than scratch the surface of Bible study and knowing the Lord. Start today!
