Home is that place where you can relax and just be yourself. It has a serene, security that no other place on earth holds. I once heard a scholarly pastor tell his congregation, “I do not care how scholarly my children think I am, but one thing I want is for them to think of home as a fun place whenever they are there.” Now, that is the kind of home that every person yearns to have. That is the kind of home every Christian should aspire to make in their home, as well.
Like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz says, “There is no place like home.” When you go on a vacation, the place you yearn for is to be back at home. The comfort of home oozes with feelings of contentment, relaxation, and inner peace. A young doctor, his wife, and three children couldn’t find a house to live in so they had to stay in a hotel. A friend said to a six-year-old girl, “Too bad you have no home.” “Oh, yes we have a home,” she replied promptly, “but no house to put it in.” Now, that is a very profound statement. There is a huge difference between a house and a home. Just ask anyone that has a loving home, and they will totally agree.
As a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, no matter how fantastic of an earthly home you have, your eternal home in heaven outshines your earthly home as the bright, sun lit day shines over the darkness of moonless night. Philippians 3:20-21 puts it this way, “For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself.” Your final home as a Christian is, thus, in heaven. There your body will be transformed to be just like the glorified body that Jesus gave His disciples a glimpse of when He returned to earth after his crucifixion.
Therefore, prepare yourself. Your ultimate home in heaven is closer than you may think.
