When you were a child, the motivator for what you did was a love for your parents and a healthy fear of what would happen to you if you failed to do what was right. As time progressed and you became an adult, the motivator changed. There are probably lots of reasons why you now do the right things in life.
One reason you live your life the way you do is because of your love for a husband/wife, a boyfriend/girlfriend, or someone you admire. It reminds me of the story told a boy and his girlfriend. Girl: “Do you love me?” Boy: “Yes, dear.” Girl: “Would you die for me?” Boy: “No…. mine is an undying love.” Ha! Ha! That pretty well sums it up for the type of love experienced by so many people.
Because the love you experience on earth is so far unlike the agape love that your Lord is and shows you, it makes feeling and knowing that kind of love extremely hard. The Holy Scriptures repeatedly command you to live beyond your comfort zone and show agape love to those God brings into your life on a daily basis. One of those many verses is 2 Corinthians 5:14, “For the love of Christ controls us…” It goes on to say that “one died for all.” Christ loved you so much that He died a cruel, torturous death on a cross in your place. You are the one who should have died, but Christ took your place. Because of this act, this verse tells you that kind of love needs to control you.
Let your worship and obedience to the Lord in your daily living be accomplished because of the agape love in your life. Since Jesus told His disciples that the world would know that they were His disciples by the love they showed to each other, you should do likewise. The best taskmaster you can have for a life of service and worship to Christ is a life that emmulates Christ’s love. Today us a great time to start!
