Doing Big Things For God

You would like God to use you in a big way, but perhaps you feel inadequate.  After all, who are you that the Lord would even consider using you?  You say that you need to be humble and realistic about God using you in His service.  “There are so many more gifted people in this world,” you may tell yourself.  Being humble means finding your worth and value in God and God alone.  When you come to grips with the source of all your gifts and abilities coming from God, this frees you up to give God the glory and not yourself.

J.Hudson Taylor was a missionary greatly used of God to bring the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ to the people of China. In doing great things for our Lord and Savior, he said this, “All God’s giants have been weak men who did great things for God, because they reckoned on God’s being with them.”  Admitting that you are weak is the first step in being a vessel God will use.  Next, realize that God is with you wherever you go.  This results in God working in and through you.

Scripture gives you some sound advice along this path in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”  Notice, first that the verse is not limited.  It says that you can do “all things.”  The problem you have is that you do not take this literally and apply it to your life.  The later part of the verse tells you the source that you use to accomplish what God leads you to to—“through Him who strengthens me.”  Your source of power is through none other than the Lord Jesus Christ.

Take that inner prompting or urge that the Holy Spirit has laid on your heart and step out in faith.  Jesus Christ will empower you to accomplish that task.  Feeling incompetent about the task just shows that the completion of the task will be from divine intervention and not human effort.  So, go out there and do something big for God!
