You are a leader, even if you do not see yourself as a leader. In your earthly family others look to you from time to time to assist them in determining what to do in a certain situation. On your job you have to make some decisions, with some being more often than not, that impact others. In your social relationships you give direction and advice to others. Thus, during your pilgrimage here on earth you are a leader as the opportunity arises.
There are too many attributes to discuss to cover the topic of all the keys to leadership needed to be successful. So, with the constraint here of time and space, let’s look at one of the essential ingredients that you need. Woodrow Wilson said some profound words in describing what he thought was an essential characteristic for leadership: “I use not only my own brains but also all I can borrow.” Ha! Ha! Yep, to make wise decisions requires you to seek the counsel of others you respect to the topic in question.
The Holy Bible gives similar advice on leadership essentials in Proverbs 11:14, “Where there is no guidance, the people fall, but in abundance of counselors there is victory.” This verse starts off stating an important fact—if you do not get the counsel of others your fall is sure to follow. Then notice that the verse says to succeed in making wise decisions requires getting opinions from a number of people. The decision you make is based on a number of other people’s input. The one you come to by reflecting on all the information you gather, then determining your course of action. Some Christians say that your decision should be based on what a majority tell you to do. I see that nowhere in Scripture. The best course of action seems to be to get counsel from others and let the Holy Spirit direct you part based on your knowledge and the information you get from others.
As you determine your decision, do not forget to seek the Lord’s solution through the Scriptures. Don’t forget-use your brains and all you can borrow!
