Everyone wants to be successful in the life they live while here on earth. Your definition of work may vary greatly from someone else’s definition. The fact remains though that you visualize some lifestyle in which you strive to achieve that which in your estimation is a successful life.
Charlie (Tremendous) Jones was a highly paid motivational speaker who consistently spoke to Fortune 500 companies. He was highly sought after as a speaker to executives and sales people, because he had some wise words to say to empower people to become more successful than they already are. He had this to say about successful living: “You will be the same person five years from now that you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read.” You are probably familiar with the idiom that says, “You will be like the company you keep.” Or another saying this with the same meaning is: “Birds of a feather, flock together.” Thus, to be successful you need to hang around with successful people.
One of my mentors once said that he likes having a large library, because then he has thousands of scholars at his finger tips at his disposal when studying the Bible. Show me someone who is successful in almost any field, and I will show you a person who reads in their field of excellence. The Holy Bible talks about the value of books in 2 Timothy 4:13, “When you come bring the cloak which I left at Troas with Carpus, and the books, especially the parchments.” These are the words of Paul as his eminent execution approaches quickly. He did not want to wait around and do nothing. He wanted to study right down until his martyrdom.
Choose the people you associate with and the books you read carefully. Then spend lots of time with both of them. The result is that you will lead a more successful life. Do this starting today!
