Sometimes you read something that is so amazing, it actually blows your mind. It may be a fact, an event, or just something you see in a new way. Science may not be your favorite subject, but, like it or not, it is everywhere around you. The world in which you live is a living testimony to science.
There is just something amazing about going into the night and looking skyward; this is even more spectacular if done without city lights. The sheer number of stars and planets you can see with the naked eye causes you to wonder just how vast this universe actually must be. Paul Lee Tan gives some insight into that when he said, “Imagine the thickness of a page of paper as the distance from the earth to the sun (93 million miles). The distance to the nearest star (4 ½ light years) would be a 71-foot-high shelf of paper. And the diameter of our own galaxy (100,000 light years) is a 310-mile stack of paper, while the edge of the known universe is a pile of paper one-third of the way to the sun (31 million miles).” Wow! That is amazing, but to add to that is the fact that everything in the universe is synchronized so that they are not randomly bombarding one another all the time.
Of course, we know from the book of Genesis, in the Scriptures, that God created all this. Why is the logical question? David, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, answers that question: “The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands” (Ps. 19:1). God did all that to get glory for Himself. Remember, He shares His glory with no one. This vast universe you live in is to remind you that God is the creator and that you should therefore give glory to God.
Live your life daily to be an example and tell those God puts in your path about the Lord’s goodness in your life. Then, if the Lord opens the door, tell them how they can experience the same goodness. Ask Jesus to lead someone to you so you can tell them about salvation. That will blow their mind as they experience the fulness of the Holy Spirit!
