When you carefully study the lives of great men and women, you observe they never gave up. No matter what obstacles they faced, they would move toward their goal. As Christians, the goal is to finish well what you have started. Remember, the walk you have with Jesus is a marathon, not a sprint. This means that you are going to constantly be re-grouping and getting yourself back on track. Not that you are living in sin, but that you must stay focused on your goal of serving Christ and get back to basics. That is why when the Bible says in Ephesians 5:18, “be filled with the Spirit,” it means to be continually filled with the Spirit. Thus, there is more than one filling of the Spirit.
Winston Churchill once talked to a graduating class at a college. Listen well to the words he told them, “Never give in. Never, never, never, never.” In other words, be persistent no matter what else you do in life. Not only should you let those words sink in, but you should put them into practice daily.
Paul is the greatest missionary the world has ever known. He lets you in on one of his secrets of living a life to the Lord that amounts to something in Philippians 3:14, “I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” You should let nothing stop you from serving the Lord daily in your life. How do you stay on track spiritually? By making your daily goal of putting Jesus Christ first in your life.
It is part of the daily grind of living to make your top priority your relationship to Jesus Christ. This may mean changing the priorities you have in how you spend your time. Or who you spend your time with.
Start right now. Victory in Jesus can only happen by following what the Scriptures say, “I press on”!
