If you ask most people what they want most in life, they will tell you that they just want to be happy. When life is going your way, and you feel happy, then you feel like you are really living. The world offers many solutions to being happy: live for yourself, alcohol, drugs, sex, wealth, and on and on the list goes. The problem with all of these is that those who are the epitome of these things do not have the fulfilled happy life that they so seek.
If a happy fulfilled life cannot be found there, then where can it be found? There is a little quip that summarizes the solution: “Life can’t give me joy and peace; it’s up to me to will it. Life just gives me time and space; it’s up to me to fill it.” To find happiness and joy in this life means its up to each individual to seek it, and as you seek it you will eventually find it. To short circuit the journey and help you find the fulfilled life, you need to choose the source of your information carefully.
That is why I feel that the Holy Scriptures are the perfect place to get your answers, because it is 100% truth from cover to cover. Whenever you want solutions to life’s problems the first place to look should be the Bible. It gives direction to find eternal life and abundant life, while here on earth. Jesus addresses this problem in Matthew 6: “For this reason I say to you, do not be anxious for your life, as to what you shall eat, or what you shall drink; nor for your body, as to what you shall put on. Is not life more than food, and the body than clothing?” (v. 25). Jesus is saying that the things on earth are not the solution to total happiness. He continues in verses 32 to 33: “For all these things the Gentiles eagerly seek, for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
Jesus is saying that all the material things that you need that the Father knows you need these, and implies that He will provide them to you. Then Jesus gives to key to really living the abundant life on earth. He tells you to “seek first His kingdom and His righteousness,” which is telling you to live your life to obey God not the pleasures here on earth.
Live your life to be pleasing to the Lord Jesus, and then you will have abundant life and will really live!
