More often than not, you can tell what is important in your life by what you ponder during the day and by what you spend most of your time doing. For most people, family is a high priority in their life, and they spend a lot of time spending time with family. Others find that a high priority is moving forward in their career and doing whatever is necessary to be a success. Time does not allow us to probe all the priorities people have, but a close examination of your life into what you think about daily and how you spend your time will reveal what really makes you tick.
Sad to say, for a lot of folks, spiritual matters do not come on their radar, except maybe on Sunday morning. You do not have to become a spiritual fanatic, but does the Lord Jesus really have first place in your life? Only you can answer that. Jesus, Himself, said there would be many, many people who profess Jesus as Lord and even do miraculous things in His name, but He said, “I never knew you” (Matt. 7:20-23). It is time for you to search your heart and see if you really know Christ and are living daily for Him.
Jonathan Edwards was a great pastor and man of God during the Great Awakening here in America. God’s plan took priority in his life. He wrote in his journal, “Resolved that all men should live for the glory of God. Resolved secondly that, whether or not any one else does, I will.” Can you make such a proclamation in your life?
Scripture makes it clear that the things you should focus your life around daily are spiritual things vice material things. “Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God” (Col. 3:2-3). This verse exhorts believers to think most of your day on spiritual things not material things. The reason this verse tells you to do that is because you have died to the things here on earth to live a new life focused on heavenly, eternal matters.
So put first things first and think and act on spiritual matters more than earthly, material matters!! Then one day you will hear the Lord Jesus say, “Well done, My good and faithful servant”!
