Pastor’s Pen
When we were children, we loved birthdays. We loved getting all those gifts, so we wanted as many of our friends to come to our birthday party, as possible. Children like receiving gifts, but as adults we love to give gifts to those we love. Adults realize that the giving of gifts is an expression of our love for that other person. The same is true of giving to the church or other organization; it shows our love and appreciation for what they mean to us.
God wants us to give to His work and ministry in the church and to Christian organizations. In Malachi it tells us that God will open the gates of heaven and pour out His blessings on our lives, if we will faithfully tithe. There was once a farmer who was known for giving extensively to the Lord’s work. He explained it this way: “I keep shoveling into God’s bin, and God keeps shoveling back into mine, and He has a bigger shovel.” Ha! Ha! We chuckle, but the principle is truer than life itself. We cannot out give God.
I know what some of you are thinking; yea, I know all about that OT verse, but we live under grace in the NT. The principle still holds in the NT. Consider 2 Cor. 9:6, “But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.” This says if we give generously to the Lord’s work, then God will bless us beyond our wildest dreams.
So GIVE GENEROUSLY to receive generously!!!!!
